Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC), previously called as Department of Mine Clearance (DMC), was established in 1990 under the then Prime Minister’s Office. In 1994 it was merged with the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority. The name of DMC was changed to DMAC on 20th May 2015. As operational arm and sectoral department of the the national mine action authority, DMAC is responsible for the leadership, monitoring and evaluation of all mine action activities in Afghanistan including demining, mine risk education, surveys, accreditation and adherence to national standards.
Since 2008, DMAC has collocated with UN Mine Action Centre for Afghanistan (UNMACA), a project of the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS), and both are operating within from the same compound. DMAC receives support from the US Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA) through the “International Trust Fund (ITF) for Enhancing Human Security” a Slovenian Public International Organisation in support of the national capacity development of the DMAC. ITF has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with ANDMA.
